PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate CAS NO 86846 21 1
PEG-20 glycerol triisostearate is a commonly used non-ionic Emulsifier in cleaning formulas, playing a "main player" in makeup removal, gentle cleaning and other scenarios. It is a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid with excellent self emulsifying ability and an HLB value of approximately 8. It can easily emulsify a variety of oils without heating or adding additional auxiliary emulsifiers. It is highly adaptable to oil-based product systems such as makeup remover, lipstick and oil gel. Moreover, it gets along well with common moisturizers, leaving minimal residue after use and providing a refreshing and non greasy skin feel. The recommended dosage is between 5% and 20%, and it is available in 17kg or 25kg drums for practical use.
 
From a chemical perspective
It is made by first combining glycerol with three isostearic acid molecules and then undergoing ethoxylation reaction. The PEG -20 polyether chain endows the molecule with the "hydrophilic" property, while the isostearic acid part is responsible for the "lipophilic" property, so that the whole molecule presents the "amphiphilic" property, and is naturally adapted to the "water in oil" lotion system. The branched structure of isostearic acid also brings the advantages of low viscosity and lightweight texture, which will not cause stuffiness when applied. At the oil-water interface, it can be well dispersed. Even if the oil concentration is high, it can also form a stable lotion. It also helps to improve the freeze-thaw stability, so that the oily ingredients are evenly distributed in the formula, and the emulsification strength is strong.

In the field of cosmetics, it focuses on two main directions: makeup removal and gentle cleaning. Like oil-based facial cleansers and lipstick, it can quickly form a stable lotion after contact with water, which can easily take away makeup, sunscreen, grease, etc. without leaving an oil film.
