OILREE® MY910 Steareth-10 CAS NO. 13149-86-5

The INCI name of OILREE® MY910 is Steareth-10, which is a nonionic surfactant.It is usually white waxy and almost odorless.Formulators use it as an oil-in-water Emulsifier, co-emulsifier, and solubilizer; it is one of our many nonionic emulsifier product lines.

What is Steareth-10

Steareth-10 belongs to the Steareth series.Each specification in this series is based on the same stearyl alcohol skeleton, the difference is only in the number of ethylene oxide units contained-the more units, the stronger the hydrophilicity of the material.Steareth-10 contains 10 ethylene oxide units, which puts it in the position of moderate HLB value in this series.

The principle of action of Steareth-10 as an emulsifier

The HLB value of Steareth-10 is moderate, at 12.4, which is very suitable for stably combining oil and water in an oil-in-water system.Its polyoxyethylene chain can maintain the dispersed state of the oil droplets, thereby preventing the emulsion from stratification.Since the connecting bond in the molecule is an ether bond rather than an ester bond, it will not hydrolyze and decompose in water like an ester emulsifier.This gives it good acid, alkali and high salt resistance, and can maintain stability over a wide pH range.When the formula requires a thicker and more stable cream, it is often used with Glyceryl Stearate SE, a self-Emulsifying wax.

Soluble in water; insoluble in mineral oils and other non-polar solvents.
Completely biodegradable.
White waxy, low odor.Typical applications in cosmetics, it can be used together with peg‑40 Hydrogenated castor oil to optimize solubilizing performance for fragrance and lipophilic actives.

Application of Steareth-10

Creams and lotions-Build a stable oil-in-water matrix and increase texture. They are often used in conjunction with liquid emulsifying systems such as Polysorbate 60 as auxiliary emulsifiers.
Conditioner and hair mask-as an auxiliary emulsifier and dispersant, it is used for silicone oil and ester ingredients.
Cleansing gel and cleanser-In the formulation of the surfactant system, it works with Laureth-4 to exert a wetting effect.
Makeup and sunscreen-helps to evenly disperse pigments and UV filters.

Comparison of Steareth-10 with other Steareth levels

The classification of the Steareth series is based on the bonus number of EO.Steareth-2 is an auxiliary emulsifier and consistency regulator for oil-in-water systems.Steareth-10 is an oil-in-water emulsifier with medium HLB value.Steareth-20 is more hydrophilic and has a better effect as a solubilizer in transparent systems or high water content systems.Please select the appropriate level according to the HLB value required by the recipe, or mix the two levels to achieve the target HLB value.

Recipe points

Usage: Usually 1%-5% in finished products.Please confirm according to the specific formula and local regulations.
It is a waxy solid and needs to be dispersed in the oil phase or hot water.The cloud point of the 1% solution is about 72-76°C-if the system needs to be kept transparent, the processing temperature should be below this range.
Compatible with most types of surfactants; in systems with high electrolytes or high active substance content, attention should be paid to their performance.
Store in a cool and dry place in a sealed manner.
