How is Ceteareth-21 Made?
Ceteareth-21 is a nonionic surfactant synthesized by ethoxylation of cetearyl alcohol. This process introduces polyoxyethylene segments into the cetearyl alcohol molecule to give it hydrophilicity and emulsifying activity, ultimately forming a white flake solid form. As an oil-in-water emulsifier with a high HLB value, its synthesis process requires precise control of the degree of polymerization of ethylene oxide to ensure that the HLB value is stable within the range of the water-in-oil system. The product is packaged in 20kg bags and 100g sealed bag samples are provided. The samples are consistent with the appearance of mass-produced products, both of which are clean and smooth white flakes.
 
Primary Function in Cosmetic Formulations
In cosmetics and personal care formulations, the core function of ceteareth-21 is to act as an oil-in-water emulsifier and is widely used in emulsion products such as creams and lotions. When used, the oil phase is usually added during the heating process to work synergistically with other ingredients. The recommended addition amount is 1–5%. In the formula, it can not only maintain the uniform texture of the lotion, but also improve the smoothness of the product, so that the skin care system has both the right consistency and is easy to spread and absorb.
